About LAR membership
1. Why should you become a member of LAR?
Without members, no LAR. Your support secures the future of air rescue in Luxembourg, since efficient rescue services cost money - also as well when the rescuers of Air Rescue are not even in the air.
The rescue helicopters and air ambulance aircraft are on permanent deployment, the crews must be on standby at all times, and LAR's demands of quality and safety are exacting. All of this is necessary in order to be able to act at all times for the wellbeing of LAR members and of each and every patient on board. Even in those cases where “Caisse Nationale de Santé” bears some of the operating costs, you as a LAR member are ensuring that there is still an air rescue service, and of course LAR, in existence in Luxembourg!
As a 'thank you' for your support, LAR is offering its members the repatriation from abroad in a medical emergency free of charge - worldwide!
2. Can I also give membership as a gift?
Yes. By applying online (Link) you can give us all the details of the person to whom the gift is to be sent. After completion of payment the LAR membership card will be sent in a special gift envelope to you or directly to the person receiving the gift.
3. Can I make the subscription for LAR membership deductible for tax purposes?
LAR membership is actually not a charitable donation and can not in principle be deducted from tax. However we will be happy to send you a written confirmation of the payment of your membership subscription. Just call us!
Donations to the Luxembourg Air Rescue Foundation are deductible as long as the total amount of your donation over the whole year exceeds 124 EUR.
About the membership card
1. Why do I not receive each year a new membership card?
LAR membership cards are ongoing membership cards, that is to say, they are valid as long as payment is made and they are not renewed as long as they remain intact. If your card becomes damaged or goes missing, call us and we will happily send you a new card.
2. When is my membership fee due?
The LAR membership subscription payment lasts for exactly one year. If you have applied to LAR in June the next membership fee becomes due in the June of the following year. When exactly your membership fee becomes due can be found on your membership card, bottom right on the card, beside the sentence "Valide si cotisation annuelle payeé“ where in brackets can be seen your personal affiliation date, e.g. (Sep) = September or (09) = September.
3. Must I carry the membership card in order to be able to prove my identity in the case of an emergency?
Luxembourg Air Rescue is integrated into Luxembourg's emergency doctor system and also flies for non-members in the case of medical emergency. The emergency doctor decides on the most suitable method of transport. But always think about this: LAR is a private, non-profit making organization financed by its members. Without them. there would be no air rescue services in Luxembourg.
If you find yourself abroad and require help from Air Rescue in a medical emergency to return to Luxembourg, we can check your membership by means of your name and date of birth.
For this reason family members do not also need their own membership card.
Note: Repatriations from abroad require a certain period of notice and a doctor-to-doctor conversation is always necessary prior to any return. In a medical emergency therefore always go first to a hospital so that you can receive first aid treatment there.
Family Members/Children
1. Who can be included on a Family Card?
A LAR family membership means that you and your married partner or non-married partner, as long as you are living at one address, together with the children (up to 18 years old) living with you, are registered as members with LAR for 97 EUR per annum. This applies also to homosexual couples.
Children who after their 18th birthday have no independent income yet due to their studies can of course still remain registered with their parents. In this case we would ask you to send each year a proof of study certificate to LAR.
2. What must I do if we have a new-born?
You have had a new-born and would like to register him/her on your card? If you already have family membership you only need to call Air Rescue. Simply give us the name and date of birth of your child. If you have only had single membership to date then complete the form for the "change your membership". (link)
General Questions
1. What must I do if my contact details have changed?
If you have moved house we would ask you to inform us of your change of address so that we can alter this in our system. (Link)
In the case of separation, divorce or a death we would ask you to inform us by phone or in writing.
2. I am a member of a union. Do I get a reduced subscription tariff?
LAR offers reduced tariffs for some Luxembourg unions. Just call us and we will gladly advise you whether this also applies to you.
3. Can a company arrange a membership?
As a company you can support LAR in the form of a 'Corporate Membership' and at the same time show your employees your appreciation. Simply call us or write to us at our e-mail address This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
4. Is LAR an insurance company?
No, LAR is a non-commercial and private non-profit organization, which is dependent on membership subscriptions and donations. Without its members, there would be no air rescue services in Luxembourg.
5. Why become a LAR member when insurances offer also repatriation in case of a medical emergency and when I am already a member at these organisations?
a) Professional and personalised 24/7 service
Our patients and members are our “raison d’être”. Compared to commercial assistance organisations, your call does not end up in an anonymous call centre. From your first call in the LAR control centre until your arrival in Luxembourg, well trained qualified personnel will take care of you and your family.
b) Without any extra costs and without any deferment period
Services of LAR like repatriation are valid as soon as fee payment has been done without deferment period and no price nor age limit.
Insurance companies offer repatriation in case of a medical emergency, but like with all insurance policies, they should be read very carefully.
Many insurance companies have a limit of 12.500 EUR per claim. This sum seems very low in the light of the high repatriation costs in case of a medical emergency. Example: a repatriation from the Canary Islands for an intensive care patient in the air ambulance cost more than 20.000 EUR.
c) Everyone has his own area of expertise
LAR is specialised in the organisation and execution of medical air repatriations 24/7 and not on services on cars nor assumptions of costs for hospitalisations.
Membership for cross border inhabitants
I don't live in Luxembourg but in the Greater region, can I still become a LAR member?
Of course! As a cross border commuter or inhabitant of the Greater region you can still support LAR and benefit from the service of the free worldwide repatriation from abroad in the case of medical emergency. The return in this case is made to a hospital close to your home location. Do you have any other questions? If so, call us (tel.: +352 489006) or complete our contact form. (Link)
