And you can't take it for granted that there will be a helicopter?

Isabelle was being visited by a friend. They ran around to the stables on the farm together. Mom called out to her daughter, telling her to slow down. But it was too late!

Isabelle ran too close to a horse from behind, the horse was frightened and kicked. The hoof struck the 7-year-old right in the face and completely smashed in an eye. Her face was covered in blood. At moments like this, you don't think, you just act. While the mother called the father, who was only a few meters away, she laid the child in the recovery position.

The father called 112 and everything happened very quickly. Only a few minutes after the emergency call, the rescue helicopter arrived. The medical crew had to treat Isabelle at the accident site for an hour before she could be flown to the Luxemburg Children's Clinic with the helicopter.

The tests performed upon her arrival in the hospital yielded no indications of life-threatening brain injuries or damage to the spinal cord. But Isabelle's eye was in danger and she was in danger of going blind on that side. It was not just that the eye was smashed in, it was also torn. Isabelle needed to undergo surgery as quickly as possible. For this reason, the 7-year-old was transferred immediately by the LAR helicopter to the Paediatric Department of the University Clinic in Liège (Belgium). There she was operated that very same evening. Her eye could be saved and the vision partially restored.

We always took helicopters for granted. But only thanks to LAR it was possible for our daughter to be taken to a specialised clinic where she could undergo surgery. The Peiffer family is pleased to support Luxembourg Air Rescue, because it has seen how important rapid help from the sky really is.
