When minutes seem like an eternity!

 Familie Sadeler-Huwer

Even though lunch was about to be served, the three sons of the Sadeler family from Filsdorf took off on their bikes one more time, as so often on those last glorious days of summer. But this day was different from all the others. The three boys rode through the village that Saturday afternoon, headed into a curve, but Lee slipped out of the lane, got caught up in the main road and went straight in front of a car. The car couldn't dodge him and struck the 13-year-old.

His oldest brother raced home immediately and told their parents. First responders at the accident scene called the emergency services and provided first aid. Just a few minutes later the helicopter carrying the emergency doctor from the Kirchberg Hospital landed. The medical emergency team tended to Lee rapidly and stabilized him for transportation to the Luxemburg Children's Clinic. Though it all went very fast, every minute seemed like an eternity to me. That's why I was glad that he could be flown to the hospital quickly with the LAR helicopter, too.

While the sister took care of the other two, visibly shocked, brothers, their parents set off for the hospital immediately. Lee was extremely lucky. After additional examinations, severe head injuries and internal bleedings could be excluded. Lee only suffered a lot of bruises, abrasions and a broken shin. The Sadeler family has been a member of LAR for 21 years. The father, Claude Sadeler, thought it was important to support airborne emergency medicine, as he had been a member of the fire brigade himself for years and learned firsthand, just how helpful and important rescue helicopters are in addition to an effective emergency rescue system. That his own family would need this help someday had never occurred to him.
